"My Demon"
by Vagabond

And again the flames eat away someone I loved. Someone I was willing to fight for. To die for… But again my life continues. Leaving me with a sacred mission at day and with the taste of ashes in the darkness of my dreams.

Sometimes I wish I had not willed my fathers sword out of the cold stone-covered mound of his grave that night. This sword, which makes me a myth amongst men. They say it makes me invincible, and maybe it does. But at what price?

The twisted faces of Merlin’s pagan gods stare at me from the hilt of my sword. Unforgiving. In my heart I know the truth. That I am its slave. Bound to it with my very soul, feeding it with the blood of my enemies.

Excalibur, the legendary sword. My demon.

One day it will rest in the everlasting mists of time, and maybe then I will find peace, too. My soul finally allowed to drift away, crossing the sea, lead by a strong east wind…
