"After the Fall"
Intro
by Rose and Beryll
1994 was not a particularly remarkable year in the history of the human race.
Peace treaties were signed.
The American public would talk endlessly about the OJ Simpson trial.
Kurt Cobain died.
Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa.
And the Channel Tunnel between England and France was opened.
None of these events would later be recalled.
On the 16th of December a slight tremor shook the Yellowstone National Park. Experts panicked, trying to warn officials of the so called 'Super Vulcano' located below the Park. Officials scoffed at the warnings. Experts had been saying it was overdue for years. Nobody believed anything would happen.
At 2am December 17th they were all proven wrong.
The great vulcano erupted, sweeping the continent of Northern
America in a blazing inferno that eradicated human civilization and left behind
a barren, smoldering wasteland, ravaged by earthquakes and follow up eruptions
of smaller vulcanos.
Apocalypse had arrived six years early.
Thousands of tons of ashes were blown into the atmosphere and spread all over the world.
The skies went dark.
Communication with satellites was cut completely within days.
Chaos spread like wildfire as global communication broke down and trade stopped. Medical care deteriorated.
In the big cities civil wars broke out, quickly spreading everywhere as humanity reverted to it's most primitive urge: survival.
Countless people died.
Those who survived found themselves in a world radically changed.
Earth had grown cold, both in temperature and compassion.
-
Ten years later humanity has returned to savage tribalism.
Only a very few pockets of civilization remain.
And they are constantly under siege...
